Your trip starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa with a view of Mount Everest. Once you arrive, we take it easy on the first day to acclimate to the high altitude. From the next day, the tour really begins. You’ll visit world-famous landmarks like the Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama, where history and architecture come together. Stroll through the beautiful gardens of Norbulingka Palace and marvel at the sacred beauty of Jokhang Temple.

The best time to visit Lhasa is from April to October, as the weather during these months is perfect and suitable for sightseeing.

April is the beginning of the pleasant season in Lhasa. The days are warm with an average temperature of 8.25, ranging between 0.9 at night to 15.6 during the day. The air is fresh and the flowers are blossoming everywhere which makes Lhasa beautiful during April.

Likewise, May and June are the two most ideal months to visit Lhasa. The temperatures are warmer, averaging around 14 . Daytime highs reach up to 16, while the nights cool down to about 5. These months are incredible for exploring Lhasa’s stunning landscapes and cultural sites without extreme weather conditions.

July and August are summer in Lhasa. Summer here is unlike the hot and humid conditions found in many other destinations. Instead, Lhasa has a cool and refreshing summer with an average temperature of 15, ranging from 9.4 at night to 22.1 during the day.

September and October are autumn here. The days are sunny and warm, perfect for sightseeing, hiking, and any other outdoor activities. The average temperature during these months is around 11.2, with daytime highs reaching 19.7 and cooler nights dropping to 1.3.

Begin your journey with a flight to Tibet, where you’ll be treated to the most beautiful view of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest. The Ktm to Gongaar airport flight takes about 1 hour. Alternatively, you can take a train journey from mainland China for a unique experience.

Upon arrival at Gonggar airport, it’s a scenic drive to Lhasa. In Lhasa, you have the rest of the day to rest fully for acclimatization. Overnight at the Hotel.

On these days, you’ll explore some of the famous and must-visit landmarks in Lhasa such as:

  • Potala Palace: The residence of the Dalai Lama is an amazing example of Tibetan architecture. This stunning palace overlooks the lovely city of Lhasa, and from its highest points, you can soak in breathtaking views of the city and the beautiful snow-capped mountains beyond. The palace itself is a sight to behold. Inside, you’ll discover sacred Buddhist scriptures, colorful decorative paintings, and beautiful wood and clay carvings. There are also treasure troves of Tibetan Buddhist scrolls in the libraries. And don’t miss the incredible 1,800 grottoes dedicated to various deities at the top. It's a wonderful place to explore and learn about Buddhism.
  • Norbulingka Palace: This place is surrounded by a huge park. During summer and autumn, this park and many others in Tibet turn into lively spots filled with dancing, singing, music, and all kinds of festivities. The palace is home to a collection of Italian chandeliers, Ajanta frescoes, Tibetan carpets, and plenty of other interesting stuff. Also, there's a small zoo featuring Tibetan animals like lynx, white-bibbed Himalayan bears, and red, ring-tailed lesser pandas.
  • Jokhang Temple: Jokhang Temple is one of the oldest temples in Lhasa. It's pretty special because it has depictions of Shakyamuni Buddha that were given as gifts by Princess Wencheng from the Tang dynasty and Princess Bhrikuti from Nepal when they married King Songtsen Gampo. The temple itself is built from wood and stone, showing off a cool mix of Tibetan Buddhist style along with some influences from China, Indian Vihara design, and Nepal. Also, it is filled with interesting cultural artifacts like bronze sculptures, paintings, and boxes of Buddhist scriptures.
  • Barkhor Bazaar: Barkhor Bazaar is such a cool spot with tons of shops and sights to check out. The area is full of trinkets and souvenirs; perhaps you could buy some.
  • Drepung Monastery: This monastery is one of the biggest in the world, with over 10,000 monks living there. It's a place where you soak up the culture and spirituality of Tibet. The monastery itself is stunning, filled with carvings and amazing artwork everywhere you look.
  • Sera Monastery: This beautiful monastery is located high in the mountains, surrounded by stunning white buildings and impressive boulders in the background. One of the highlights of visiting is getting to see the monks engage in lively debates during the early afternoon. A Tibet travel permit is mandatory for all visitors. Our team will take care of obtaining the permit as well as the visa. But we need a photo of a valid passport.
