Then, you visit the National Memorial Chorten which lies in a peaceful surrounding. Today, you drive back to Paro. As you reach Paro, you visit Paro Dzong, also known as Runpung Dzong. Then, you explore Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. Here, you see its unique architecture. Unlike most dzongs, Ta Dzong has a round, cylindrical structure. Begin the hike from Sang Choekor Buddhist College (2,800 meters) to a yak pasture below Bumdra Monastery(3,800 meters). The start of the trek is uphill to a ridge with prayer flags. From here, you get the most beautiful views of Paro and Do Chhu Valley. Then, you reach a temple called Chhoe Tse Lhakhang. You continue hiking up until you reach Bumdra Monastery, which is also known as Cave of a Thousand Prayers From here, you’ll be treated to breathtaking vows of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Wake up to the breathtaking views from the Camp. After breakfast, you begin to descend, following a zigzagging monk’s trail through rhododendrons and pine forests. As you hike down, you get a glimpse of Taktsang Monastery(Tiger’s Nest Monastery). You reach the Sangtopelri(Heaven on Earth) viewpoint. From here, you get the view of the Tiger’s Nest Monastery on the cliffside. Continue hiking down to a waterfall, then climb up the steps to the monastery. From the monastery, you get a striking view of the Paro Valley. Inside the monastery, there are several temples and shrines with intricate statues, paintings, and religious artifacts. After exploring the monastery, you descend to the valley and drive to your hotel in Paro.

How easy is the Bumdra Monastery Trek?

The Bumdra Monastery Trek is quite easy for those who have hiking experience. It is considered to be of moderate difficulty. What makes the trek quite challenging is the altitude and terrain. The trek reaches an altitude of around 3,800 meters at Bumdra Monastery. While not extremely high, altitude can still affect some. As for the trekking trails, it involves several steep ascents and descents as well as some uneven terrain. Compared to other treks in Bhutan like Druk Path trek, the Bumdra trek is short and doable for everyone. For people with a good level of fitness and hiking experience, Bumdra Trek is an excellent option!

The distance from Paro to Bumdra is about 7 km. The hike takes about 5 hours. The trek is completed in two days.

What’s the best time for Bumdra Trek Bhutan?

The best time for Bumdra Trek in Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn ( September to November).

During these months, the weather is at its finest for sightseeing and trekking.
